The much anticipated 2023 Pinewood Derby is scheduled for January 20, 2022 in the GRDC MP room. Derby kits will be handed out at our December 16th Pack meeting.

Awards

There will be awards given out at the event for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in racing, as well as design awards for each category listed below. Additionally, one car design in total will be selected as "Best in Show" and they along with the 3 fastest cars will advance to the district races which usually take place in April.

Rules

Attached are the design rules for the Pinewood Derby cars. Please be sure to review these and build your cars accordingly. There will be car inspections the night of, and cars may be disqualified if they do not meet the specified criteria.

Woodworking Assistance

Woodcraft of Sacramento (https://www.woodcraft.com/stores/sacramento), has extended their woodworking services to all the local packs within the district, free of charge. If you are in need of assistance in cutting your child's car into the design they choose, you may take it to Woodcraft and have one of their associates perform the cuts for you. During the first week in January (2nd - 8th), they have set aside their workshop/classroom just for local scouts. The store is open M-F 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, 6 pm on Saturdays and 5 pm Sundays. You are welcome to swing by anytime within their business hours that week. They also ask that you come with a rough drawing on the side of the wood block with the design you wish to cut. If you want a standard design template to use, you can find one here
